Born of Osiris is a technical death-metal band from outside of Chicago. In case you’re rusty on your Egyptian mythology, Osiris is the ancient god of the dead. Osiris has the nifty distinction of having posthumously conceived his son Horus, the god of the sky. (Don’t try it at home.)

The myth involves dismemberment and golden phalluses — it’s a particularly nasty/awesome business, perfect symbolic fodder for a metal band. Norse mythology seems to be more commonly mined by metal bands than the wonderfully death-centric myths of ancient Egypt.

The band’s sound is propelled by strafing double-kick patterns. At times a listener feels like a punching back being pounded at lightning speed. The guitar tones are clipped and abrasive, dropping out periodically to create the sense of space required for the band’s impressively dense sound. Listen for it and you might even find a hat tip to EDM embedded in the band’s music.

Born of Osiris performs with After the Burial, Upon a Burning Body, and several other acts, at the Webster Theater, 31 Webster St., Hartford, Thursday, May 26, 5 p.m. Tickets are $20. Information: 860-525-5553 and webstertheater.com.
