Kung Fu To Cover Curtis Mayfield At Toad's Place

Kung Fu's holiday cover album this year is Curtis Mayfield's 1972 classic "Superfly," to be performed in its entirety at the band's annual two-day Toys for Tots Holiday Spectacular at Toad's Place in New Haven on Dec. 18 and 19, beginning at 8 p.m.

The New Haven band -- guitarist Tim Palmieri, tenor sax player Robert Somerville, keyboard player Beau Sasser, bassist Christopher DeAngelis and drummer Adrian Tramontano -- welcomes special guests Alan Evans (Soulive) and Dayton, Ohio jamband The Werks on Friday. Brooklyn's Break Science sits in on Saturday.

Tickets ($12-$20 nightly, or $37 for a two-night pass) are available at toadsplace.com.

Last year's Toys for Tots featured Steely Dan guitarist Jon Herington and drummer Bernard Purdie in a tribute to Steely Dan's 1976 album "The Royal Scam." Read the Courant’s coverage here.
