One of the most popular female-centric films of the last three decades will be shown in area theaters in a 25th anniversary commemorative screening.

“Thelma & Louise,” from 1991, tells the story of a housewife and a waitress (Geena Davis and Susan Sarandon, respectively) who leave for a weekend outing together in Louise’s classic car. They wind up, through an unfortunate series of events, on the run from the law. The evening’s entertainment includes a introduction to the film by film critic Ben Lyons.

Ridley Scott’s film will be shown Sunday and Wednesday, Aug. 21 and 24, at 2 and 7 p.m. each day at theaters in Waterbury, Enfield, Manchester, Milford, North Haven, Pawcatuck, Jewett City, Danbury and Branford. Tickets: fathomevents.com.
