“Santa Claus Conquers the Martians” is considered by many to be not just the worst Christmas movie ever made, but one of the worst movies ever made, period. So of course it’s a time-honored classic for RiffTrax, the live-riffing series presented by the guys from “Mystery Science Theater 3000.”

The 1964 film tells the story of Martians who kidnap Santa to try to force him to become a gift-giver on that planet.

The event will be shown Dec. 1 at 7 p.m. at Cinerom Torrington, AMC Danbury 16, Carmike Lisbon, Cinemark Buckland Hills in Manchester, Connecticut Post 14 in Milford, Cinemark North Haven, Stonington 10, Cinemark Enfield, Regal Brass Mill 12 in Waterbury, Branford 12 and Carmike Bloomfield.

The evening’s entertainment also includes “Christmas Shorts-stravaganza,” a collection of holiday-themed short films. The RiffTrax guys will be joined by “Weird Al” Yankovic.

The theaters in Manchester, Milford, North, Haven, Stonington, Waterbury, Danbury and Branford will show another family-friendly film screening this week. The animated “Nerdland” tells the story of two slackers who want to become celebrities, by any means necessary. After the film, a panel discussion will be shown with the film’s stars Patton Oswalt and Kate Miccuci and others. Showtime is 8 p.m. Dec. 6. fathomevents.com.
