Real Art Ways’ six-part matinee series modeled after a college Film Studies 101 class begins with “Singin’ in the Rain” on Wednesday, Oct. 14. J.D. Connor, assistant professor of history of art and film and media Studies at Yale University, has chosen “Sound on Film” as this year’s focus. He will lead a discussion after each screening.

All shows are on Wednesdays at 1 p.m. Here’s the lineup:

>>Oct. 14: “Singin’ in the Rain,” the 1952 musical about the early days of sound film, starring Gene Kelly and Debbie Reynolds.

>>Oct. 21: “Under the Roofs of Paris,” a 1930 French-language comic drama about one woman and three men.

>>Nov. 4: “Sansho the Bailiff,” Kenji Mizoguchi’s 1954 Japanese-language classic about a family torn apart.

>>Nov. 18: “A Man Escaped,” Robert Bresson’s 1956 drama about a French resistance fighter.

>>Dec. 2: “Blow-Out,” Brian De Palma’s 1981 thriller about a sound recordist (John Travolta) who records a murder.

>>Dec. 16: “Upstream Color,” the 2013 musing on the illusion of identity.

Admission to each film is $11, $7 seniors and students, but multi-film discounted packages are available.

Two other interesting film events are scheduled this week at Real Art Ways. “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan” will be shown Thursday, Oct. 8, at 6 p.m. Before the showing of the 1982 film, starring William Shatner and Ricardo Montalban, Sarah Raskin, professor of psychology and neuroscience at Trinity College, will discuss neural circuitry. It is part of the “Science on Screen” series.

Also, “Meadowland” will be shown Tuesday, Oct. 13, at 7:30 p.m. The drama, starring Elizabeth Moss and Luke Wilson, tells the story of a relationship strained to the breaking point. It is part of the New York Film Critics Series.
