In 1973, the Yale Symphony Orchestra, under the leadership of Maestro John Mauceri, traveled to Vienna, Austria, to perform the European premiere of Leonard Bernstein’s “Mass.” That concert was recorded and the film was shown on public TV for many years afterward.

Yale will host a screening of that concert film, with Mauceri again playing host for the evening, as part of the Yale Symphony Orchestra’s 50th anniversary alumni weekend, on Friday, Feb. 12, at 9:30 p.m. at 1 Prospect Street, Sheffield-Sterling-Strathcona Hall, Room 114, in New Haven.

According to Yale, the weekend is Mauceri’s first appearance on campus in decades, after a long and distinguished career that included winning a Grammy and founding the Hollywood Bowl orchestra.

Admission is free and open to the public. Other events in the musical weekend that are open to the public are:

Yale Symphony Alumni Showcase, a recital of a variety of chamber and solo works, on Saturday, Feb. 13, at 2 p.m. at William L Harkness Hall, Sudler Hall, 100 Wall St. in New Haven. Admission is free.

50th anniversary concert conducted by Mauceri, Saturday, Feb. 13, at 8 p.m. at Woolsey Hall, 500 College St. in New Haven.

Tickets are required. Details: brian.s.robinson@yale.edu.
