Screenings Of ‘Rocky Horror,’ ‘Carnival Of Souls,’ ‘Pan’s Labyrinth’ Celebrate Halloween

Several Connecticut venues will mark the Halloween season with screenings of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show,” the classic 1975 musical about the sweet transvestite Dr. Frank N. Furter and all the weirdos who hang around with him in his secluded mansion. Some venues have “shadowcasting,” where live performers mimic the screen action. Some places offer bags of props to play along with the movie. All theaters encourage viewers to come dressed and made up as their favorite characters, but face-concealing masks are discouraged. Dates, times and venues are:

Thursday, Oct. 27, at 8:30 p.m. at Avon Theatre in Stamford, $12.

Friday, Oct. 28, at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 29, at 7:30 p.m. at Downtown Cabaret Theatre, 263 Golden Hill St. in Bridgeport, $20, bag of props $5 extra, with live floor show.

Friday, Oct. 28, Saturday, Oct. 29, and Monday, Oct. 31, at 10 p.m. at AMC Plainville, 220 New Britain Ave., $5.

Saturday, Oct. 29, at 8 p.m. at Palace Theater in Danbury, $15, bag of props $5 extra.

Saturday, Oct. 29, at 8 p.m. at the Strand Theater, 165 Main St. in Seymour, $10, bag of props $7 extra. Tickets should be bought in advance, cash only, next door to the theater at Guitar Fixer Bob.

Saturday, Oct. 29, at 11:30 p.m. at Sea Tea Comedy Theater, 15 Asylum St. in Hartford, $15, which includes bag of props.

Sunday, Oct. 30, at 7 p.m. at College Street Music Hall, 238 College St. in New Haven, with star Barry Bostwick in attendance, $27-$87.

‘Carnival Of Souls’

Another Halloween-themed film is a full-color restoration of “Carnival of Souls,” the 1962 ultra-low-budget classic about woman who survives a car crash and afterward is drawn toward an abandoned amusement park. The film will be shown with live riffing by the RiffTrax team Michael J. Nelson, Kevin Murphy and Bill Corbett: Thursday, Oct. 27, at 8 p.m. (live); and Monday, Oct. 31, at 7:30 p.m. (recorded) at AMC Danbury 16, Carmike Lisbon, Cinemark Buckland Hills in Manchester, Connecticut Post 14 in Milford, Cinemark North Haven, Cinemark Enfield, Brass Mill 12 in Waterbury, Regal Branford 12 and Regan Stonington 10. fathomevents.com.

‘Pan’s Labyrinth’

This 2006 tragic fantasy about a girl growing up in Franco-era Spain who meets scary, magical creatures, will be shown Sunday, Oct. 30, at 7 p.m. at Cinépolis West Hartford in Blue Back Square.The first 75 guests will receive a “Pan’s Labyrinth” mask and there will be a trivia contest. Admission is $11.25, $7.75 children, $8.50 seniors. and the film is rated R.

The last Halloween film is “Halloween,” the 1978 John Carpenter slasher classic. It will be screened Friday, Oct. 28, at midnight, Saturday, Oct. 29, at 9 p.m. and midnight at Cinemark Buckland; Saturday, Oct. 30, at 9 p.m. at Cinemark Enfield; Saturday, Oct. 29, at 9:15 p.m. at Cinemark North Haven; Sunday, Oct. 30, at 9:30 p.m. and Monday, Oct. 31, at 7:30 p.m. at Bow Tie Hartford, Criterion New Haven, Marquis 16 in Trumbull, and Marquee Westbrook. It is rated R.
