From ‘Rocky Horror’ To ‘Psycho’: October’s Scary Movies On Big Screen

‘Tis the season to be screaming. Film venues statewide are showing classic and new Halloween movies from now until the end of October. We’ll update the list online at ctnow.com/movies as they come in.

‘Rocky Horror’

For those who want the ultimate Halloween movie, “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” is all over the state. The 1975 classic horror musical is about a young couple who become stranded and happen upon a mansion full of freaks. Remaining screenings in Connecticut include:

Oct. 26 at 8:30 p.m. at Avon Theatre, 272 Bedford St. in Stamford. $12.

Oct. 27 at 6 and 8:15 p.m.; and on Halloween at 4, 7:15 and 9:30 p.m., at Trinity-on-Main, 69 Main St., in New Britain. Costumes encouraged. Tickets are $8 single and $15 a couple. There will be a cash bar and refreshments for sale. 860-229-2072.

Oct. 27 at 9 p.m. at Palace Danbury, 165 Main St. $15, prop bag $5.

Oct. 27 at 10:30 p.m. at Cinestudio, 300 Summit St., at Trinity College in Hartford. $10, $8 seniors and students, $7 Friends of Cinestudio, free for Trinity students with ID.

Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. and Oct. 28, at 7 and 10 p.m. at Downtown Cabaret, 263 Golden Hill St. in Bridgeport, with live floor show. $25, prop bag $5.

Oct. 28 at midnight at Sea Tea Comedy Theater, 15 Asylum St. Hartford. $15 gets you goody bag and props. Doors open at 11:30 p.m.

“The Rocky Horror Picture Show,” the classic 1975 musical, is about the sweet transvestite Dr. Frank N. Furter (Tim Curry, pictured) and all the weirdos who hang around with him in his secluded mansion.

For laughs to go with your scares, the RiffTrax riff-fest on “Night of the Living Dead” is shown on Oct. 25 at 7:30 p.m. at cinemas in Manchester, Enfield, Waterbury, North Haven, Branford, Lisbon, Milford, Danbury, Bridgeport, Fairfield and Stonington. Tickets: fathomevents.com.

Fathom Events also is showing a sweeter vision of Halloween, “Disney Junior at the Movies: Halloween Party” starring Mickey Mouse. It is shown Oct. 26 at 10 a.m. and Oct. 28 at 12:55 p.m. at cineplexes in Manchester, Waterbury, Milford and North Haven. Tickets: fathomevents.com.

Criterion Cinemas, 86 Temple St. in New Haven, and Ultimate Regent 8, 64 N. Main St. in South Norwalk, shows “Halloween” on Oct. 27 and 28 at 11:30 p.m. Those theaters also will show the 1968 Satanic thriller “Rosemary’s Baby” on Oct. 28 and 29 at 11:30 a.m. $5.50. cinemark.com.

“Hocus Pocus” and “Halloween” play as a the double feature on Oct. 28 at sundown at the sixth annual Halloween Festival at Southington Drive-In, 995 Meriden Waterbury Turnpike. “Little Shop of Horrors,” the 1986 Rick Moranis horror comedy musical about a meek florist and his man-eating plant, will be shown in a director’s cut on Sunday and Tuesday, Oct. 29 and 31, at 2 and 7 p.m. each day, at theaters in Manchester, Enfield, North Haven, Lisbon, Milford and Danbury.
