The Avon Free Public Library is hosting a free, five-film series showcasing the reigning female comic actresses of Hollywood. “Funny Women” will be held Tuesday afternoons starting Sept. 5 and running through Oct. 3. Here’s the lineup:
Sept. 5: “The First Wives Club,” the 1996 comedy about women whose husbands left them for younger women, starring Bette Midler, Goldie Hawn and Diane Keaton. PG.
Sept. 12: “Death Becomes Her,” a 1992 comedy about a woman becoming immortal. It stars Meryl Streep and Goldie Hawn. PG-13.
Sept. 19: “Sister Act,” the 1992 Whoopi Goldberg-Maggie Smith-Kathy Najimy comedy about a woman hiding from the mob in a convent. PG
Sept. 26: “Desk Set,” the 1957 Katharine Hepburn-Spencer Tracy romantic comedy about a TV news network.
Oct. 3: “9 to 5,” the 1980 comedy starring Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin and Dolly Parton as three women getting back at their sexist boss. PG.
The library is at 281 Country Club Road. Showtime each day is 1:30 p.m. except for “Desk Set,” which will be shown at 2:30 p.m. avonctlibrary.info.
