An independently produced feature film about mixed martial arts will have its East Coast premiere in a one-time screening on Thursday, Dec. 3, at Starplex Kensington, and local girl Shannon Gallagher, who appears in one scene in the film, will attend the screening.

“Street” is a drama about Remo Street (Beau Casper Smart), a young man with a tough life who has mad skills as a street fighter. His moves are noticed by two very different people: a kind-hearted coach at an MMA gym and a vicious crime boss who needs a new fighter.

In a scene early in the movie, Gallagher portrays a baby sitter, who is also named Shannon.

“Originally, she was named Allison. They changed it to Shannon when I got it,” Gallagher says.

Gallagher, 17, is a junior and a cheerleader at Berlin High School, where her brother Shane plays football. She also acts, sings, models and dances. Last year, she sent an audition video to the production company making “Street.”

“My dad found out I got it before I did,” she says. “The producer came to my Sweet 16 birthday party and announced that I would be in the movie.”

The movie was filmed in Los Angeles. The one-scene role was a little larger in the original script, Gallagher said, but she didn’t want to miss much school so it was trimmed down. Her career goals are equally studious. She wants to go to a university and major in business management.

But before that happens, Gallagher says, she will appear in “Street II.”

Showtime is 7 p.m. at the theater at 19 Frontage Road. Admission is $10. Gallagher might speak, and will sign a limited number of movie posters. streetthemovie.net.
