Irish Famine Film 'The Minnitts Of Anabeg' At Qunnipiac

The Hartford Courant

On Tuesday, Aug. 5, Ireland's Great Hunger Museum at Quinnipiac University will present a screening of an Irish drama about a man who tried to save his town during that dark time.

"The Minnitts of Anabeg" is based on the true story of the Minnitt family, who owned more than 1,000 acres of land in Tipperary in the mid-19th century. One member married a Catholic girl and was disinherited, but his father worked to help protect his townspeople from the ravages of famine.

It will be shown at 6 p.m. at the Clarice L. Buckman Theater on campus, 275 Mount Carmel Ave. in Hamden. After the screening, the movie's director, Alan Brown, will do a Q&A. Admission is $10. Tickets can be purchased at ighm.org.
