In conjunction with the exhibit “Coney Island: Visions of an American Dreamland, 1861-2008,” the Wadsworth Atheneum is presenting “Coney Island on the Silver Screen,” a series of films that are set, or have scenes, on Coney Island.

Unless otherwise noted, admission is free to all screenings at the Aetna theater at the art museum at 600 Main St. in Hartford.

>>On Sunday, March 1, at 2 p.m., the Alloy Orchestra will accompany two 1928 silent films, “Lonesome,” in which a couple frolics at Coney Island, and “Speedy,” in which Harold Lloyd goes with his girlfriend to Coney Island. Admission is $25, $15 for members, and includes admission to the exhibit.

>>On Saturday, March 7, at 1 p.m., “Weegee’s New York,” from 1948, and “Coney Island at Night,” from 1905, will be accompanied by a talk by Charles Musser, a professor of film and American Studies at Yale. At 2 p.m., “The Crowd,” a 1928 drama about the common man, will be accompanied by a talk by Joshua Glick, assistant professor or English and Film Studies at Hendrix College.

>>On Saturday, April 12, the double feature is “Annie Hall,” Woody Allen’s 1977 romantic comedy, at 2 p.m., and “Sophie’s Choice,” the 1982 tragedy starring Meryl Streep, at 4:30 p.m. Glick will speak.

>>On Thursday, April 16, “Freaks,” the 1932 cult classic starring real-life sideshow “freaks,” will be shown. The day of events begins at 5 p.m. with an exhibit walk-through, followed by a talk at 6 p.m. with Rachel Adams and Jennifer Miller, followed by the screening at 7 p.m.

>> “Enemies: A Love Story,” the 1989 drama about a man and his three women, will be shown Sunday, April 19, at 2 p.m., accompanied by a talk by Robin Jaffee Frank, who curated the “Coney Island” exhibit.

>>The series ends on Sunday, April 26, at 2 p.m. with “Imitation of Life,” the 1959 drama about two women and their troublesome daughters. Jeffrey O.G. Ogbar, the vice provost for diversity at University of Connecticut, will speak.
