Charter Oak Cultural Center, 21 Charter Oak Ave., in Hartford, presents Dinner and a Movie, a two-part series of events that include a free dinner, a free outdoor movie and a free copy of the book that the movie is based on.

The title on July 23 is “The Borrowers.” The 1997 movie was an adaptation of the books by Mary Norton about tiny people who live inside the walls of a house and “borrow” whatever they need from the house’s full-sized owners. It stars Jim Broadbent and John Goodman and is rated PG.

Food is served at 6 p.m. and the movie starts at 7 p.m. Next month’s movie, to be shown on Aug. 12 in the same time frame, is “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs,” a 2009 adaptation of the book by Judi and Ronald Barrett. The animated film is rated PG. 860-310-2580.
