Cinestudio in Hartford is showing one of the most critically acclaimed films of the 1950s, an update of the Greek legend of Orpheus and Eurydice.

“Black Orpheus,” playing Sunday to Tuesday, Feb. 28, to March 1, is set during Carnaval in Brazil, and tells the story of an engaged man who falls in love with a beautiful stranger, who is being pursued by the Angel of Death. Marcel Camus’ film won the Palme d’Or at Cannes in 1959 and won the best foreign language film Oscar. It features a bossa nova soundtrack by Luiz Bonfá and Antonio Carlos Jobim.

It will be shown each day at 7:30 p.m., with a 4:30 p.m. matinee on Sunday, March 28.

Also on Sunday at Cinestudio is “As You Like It,” National Theatre Live’s production of the Shakespeare comedy. It will be shown at 1 p.m.
