People who have never seen “La Belle et la Bete” owe it to themselves to go to Cinestudio, 300 Summit St., Hartford, sometime between Sunday and Thursday, May 29 to June 2, to feast their eyes on Jean Cocteau’s visually splendid 1946 adaptation of “Beauty and the Beast.”

The French filmmaker adapted the legendary fairy tale about a sweet young woman who captures the heart of a beast with his trademark surrealistic touches, lending an even more magical air to the fantasy story. Showtime is 7:30 p.m. each day, with a 2:30 p.m. matinee on Sunday. Admission is $9, $7 students. cinestudio.org.
