The annual “Summer Sizzle Under the Stars” series at Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art begins Friday, July 7.

This year’s movies are referenced in the current exhibit “Hand-Painted Pop! Art and Appropriation, 1961 to Now.” The exception is the first movie, which isn’t a film classic but a 2016 musical.

All movies will be shown at dark (8:15 to 8:30 p.m.) on Fridays in the museum’s Gengras Court. The doors open at 5 p.m., with a la carte dinner offered in the Museum Cafe and live music.

Here’s the lineup, with the names of musical performers:

July 7: “La La Land,” the 2016 musical about two up-and-coming performers in Hollywood: an actress (Emma Stone) and a jazz musician (Ryan Gosling). Metro Jazz will perform.

July 14: “Niagara,” the 1953 Marilyn Monroe film noir about two couples whose tensions escalate to a dangerous degree. Green Jazz Band will perform.

July 21: “Forsaking All Others,” 1934 Clark Gable-Joan Crawford romantic comedy about two couples and their conflicting emotions. Novolette will perform.

July 28: “Undercurrent,” the 1946 Katharine Hepburn film noir about a woman who thinks her husband is capable of murder. Hiroya Tsukamoto will perform.

Aug. 11: “Dial M for Murder,” the 1954 Alfred Hitchcock thriller about a plot to murder a woman (Grace Kelly). Atla and Matt DeChamplain will perform.

Admission is $9, $8 seniors and students, $7 members, free to Insider Access members and above. thewadsworth.org.
