To some, sitting in a chair in a theater and watching a screen, on which people sit in chairs and watch screens, is a bizarre sort of spectator sport. It must be a generational thing. Fathom Events this week is presenting an event, “All Work All Play: The Pursuit of eSports Glory,” a live presentation of a professional e-gaming championship event.

Fathom describes the event thus: “Experience pro-gaming like never before with this exhilarating live eSports cinema event featuring an exclusive panel discussion with luminary Joshua ‘Clutch’ Gray along with gaming legend Nathan ‘Nathanias’ Fabrikant and others plus an All-Star showdown between the Joes and the Pros as they battle it out in a 2v2 ‘Archon Mode’ game of StarCraft II.”

Showtime is Tuesday, July 21, at 8:30 p.m. at Danbury 16, Cinemark Buckland Hills in Manchester, Connecticut Post 14 in Milford, Brass Mill 12 in Waterbury, Cinemark North Haven, Stonington 10 in Pawcatuck, Cinemark Enfield and Branford, 12.

The show will be repeated, in a recorded version, on July 30 at 7:30 p.m.

Fathom, however, isn’t forgetting people who prefer to kick it old-school regarding their entertainment options. Also this week in multiple venues are an encore screening of the RiffTrax version of “Sharknado 2: The Second One” on Thursday, July 16, at 7:30 p.m.; two days of the 1944 noir classic “Double Indemnity” on Sunday and Monday, July 19 and 20, at 2 and 7 p.m. each day; and The Met Live in HD encore of Lehár’s operetta “The Merry Widow” starring Renée Fleming, on Wednesday, July 22, at 7 p.m.
