The Dog: Saturday, June 7, at 2:30 p.m. at Wadsworth Atheneum

"The Dog" tells the story of John Wojtowicz, who held up a Chase Manhattan Bank in Brooklyn in 1972 to get money to pay for his male lover's sex-change operation. The headline-grabbing crime was made into the movie "Dog Day Afternoon," in which Al Pacino portrayed the Wojtowicz character. His lover eventually got the surgery, paid for when Wojtowicz sold the rights to his life story to the "Dog Day Afternoon" filmmakers.
