Russian sage (Perovskia) is a beautiful semi-woody perennial, attractive to bees and butterflies. Blooming from July through September, it produces spires of lavender-blue flowers atop airy silver-toned foliage. Be sure to leave plenty of room when planting, at maturity (about three years) Russian sage is 36 to 40 inches tall and about three feet wide. Preferring well-drained soil and full sun, perovskia is heat and drought tolerant and resistant to deer.
