Chicago Bears guard Kyle Long and his brother Chris of the Philadelphia Eagles came to the defense of LeBron James Friday after a Fox News host advised the Cavaliers star to stay out of politics and “shut up and dribble.”
In a video for Uninterrupted, James and Kevin Durant questioned President Trump’s leadership — James said he “don’t really give a (expletive) about the people — to which Laura Ingraham, host of “The Ingraham Angle,” called their comments ignorant.
“It’s always unwise to seek political advice from someone who gets paid a hundred million dollars a year to bounce a ball,” Ingraham said in a Fox segment.
“Oh, and LeBron and Kevin: You’re great players but no one voted for you. Millions elected Trump to be their coach. So keep the political commentary to yourself or, as someone once said, shut up and dribble.”
Kyle Long responded to one tweet with Ingraham’s video, “Have known about Lebron. Just learning about this lady. She sucks.”
His brother, Chris, attacked Ingraham’s position that athletes should “stick to sports” and stay out of politics by tweeting several screen images of entertainers and athletes giving political analysis on Fox News, including musician Kid Rock, retired basketball coach Bobby Knight and former pitcher Curt Schilling.
Chris Long tweeted, “So here’s the thing. I can’t stand Curt’s views, but it’s his right to speak them. But the same people saying ‘stick to sports’ and nodding their head when Laura spews her (expletive) are tuning in to listen to Curt. ‘JUST SHUT UP AND THROW THAT BASEBALL’ - said no Fox News viewer.”
