Two more creeply clowns give a scare on Phillipsburg street

Sneaky clowns made another appearance Monday night in Phillipsburg, where two of them startled a woman but did no harm, according to police radio reports.

The clowns reportedly popped out from behind a fence at Brainard and Hudson streets, waved at the woman and ran. Town police were investigating.

Phillipsburg have had almost daily sightings of "creepy clowns" for more than a week. The clowns have not hurt anyone, but some have run after children with menacing gestures.

On Thursday night, police received a report of a clown chasing two people with a baseball bat in the 300 block of Firth Street in Phillipsburg. No one was injured.

Other areas of the greater Lehigh Valley, including Wilson, North Catasauqua and South Whitehall, also have seen clowns behaving badly.

Police have said the fad is likely to continue through Halloween night, but it's too hard to tell whether the pranksters in this region will continue to confine themselves to non-violent pranks.

In other regions of the nation, people in clown suits have been blamed for shootings and threats of violence. Still others are losing patience with the sharp-edged clowning around.
