( Morning Call File Photo / March 22, 2012 ) An ingot mold was left half-buried in the dust inside the Electric Furnace Melt Shop. Much of the home plant's valuable equipment has been salvaged, but a few pieces still are marked to be sent to other Bethlehem Steel plants. The melt shop used smaller electric furnaces to melt scrap steel, which then was poured into ingots and sent to the plant's forges. Soon, this building will house an exhibition of how iron and steel are made, including an electric furnace. |
