David Buchanan optioned as Grady Sizemore joins Phillies

After Thursday's 9-1 win over the Milwaukee Brewers, Philadelphia made a move almost every Phillies fan has been hoping for - the calling up of outfielder Grady Sizemore.

Phillies fans haven't had much to look forward to this season but many have been waiting to see if the three-time American League All-Star would be able to help the big league squad since being signed June 24.

Philadelphia signed the 31-year-old to a minor league contract because their outfielders were playing less than satisfactory both on offense and defense.

Before the Phillies selected Sizemore's contract Thursday night, they had to make a spot for him on both the 25- and 40-man rosters.

Cliff Lee was transferred to the 60-day disabled list and David Buchanan was optioned to the Lehigh Valley IronPigs to create space for Sizemore.

The moves don't really change much as the Phillies won't need a fifth starter until July 22 because of the All-Star Break and even with the move to the 60-day DL, Lee is eligible to come back for the first series after the break in Atlanta.
