Property of the Week: Washington Farms in Burlington

Goldilocks knew what she wanted in a home.

Her approach to finding things that are sized “just right” would have served her well at Washington Farms in Burlington.

Customers at this By Carrier community of what will be 12 homes (one quarter are already spoken for) “have the ability to have a home their way,” says realtor Gayle Dennehy. “We can customize the space to fit a family’s needs. We can make it larger; we can make it smaller.”

Homebuyers, she says, “can take any of the models we are offering and make interior or exterior modifications.”

For example, Washington Farm's almost 3,500-square-foot multi-generational model features “flex space where families can get together,” Dennehy says. Whether it's mom paying the bills, dad surfing the net, or kids gaming, there's everything family members need from a computer desk area to charging stations, a high-top activity space and more.

The home also has an in-law “apartment” – about 500 square feet of secondary space on the first floor with a great room featuring a kitchen and living area as well as a separate bedroom, full bath and washer/dryer hook-up.

“It could work for a second master bedroom suite,” Dennehy says. “It is entered into directly off the mudroom space.”

The nearly 3,500-square-foot model home features five bedrooms, three-and-a-half baths and a three-car garage. The floor plan also features a dramatic two-story foyer and two-story great room that are well situated and designed to let in lots of sunshine.

“We also found that there were some people who loved that look but might not necessarily need all the space of the multi-generational home,” says Dennehy, who announced that By Carrier will build a Washington Modified model on the Farmington side of Washington Farms, which will eventually have 10 homes. This model will be available for April occupancy.

The modified plan essentially eliminates the kitchen/sitting area and bedroom and bath on the first floor of the multi-generational home, but offers a larger upstairs master bedroom with two walk-in closets and a master bath with a walk-in tile shower and separate soaking tub.

Other models are available, including colonials with first-floor master suites and ranch models.

Each of the models maximizes space through the use of oversized windows, high ceilings (cathedral on some models) and great-room style floor plans that allow for an easy flow for casual living and entertaining. Our popular models also offer a formal dining room with a tray ceiling, chair rail and wainscoting that comes standard.

The kitchens feature stainless steel General Electric Profile appliances, a built-in microwave and built-in convection oven, and a natural gas cook top with hood. Granite countertops also come standard in the kitchens and the master baths. Master baths have decorative tile flooring and a walk-in tile shower as standard. Some models include a butler's pantry in the kitchen; most models offer a breakfast area. All have a natural gas fireplace in the great room.

Our Washington Model at 1 Kings Grant features a dual-sided fireplace which fronts the great room and the back deck. “You can sit out on your deck space and enjoy nature and get that added warmth for those cool nights,” says Dennehy.

“The Burlington vicinity is absolutely gorgeous, especially right now with all the fall colors,” she adds. “I call it quaint New England living. People who come to Burlington are looking for that small town feel.”

All the lots are over an acre, creating a lovely, bucolic feel. “While Washington Farms is close to walking trails and hiking trails, there are great dining and shopping options nearby. It's not far from things,” says Dennehy.

And the community offers another sought-after feature – natural gas heating.

“It's a big deal that Washington Farms offers natural gas heating, which in Burlington is unheard of,” she says. “That has been a big draw for people.”

This Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m., Washington Farms in Burlington is holding an “Oven Fresh Event” with refreshments. Prospective homeowners will get a chance to tour the community and two properties, as well as talk to current homeowners. “We are bringing in a pizza truck and they are serving free wood-fired pizzas,” says Dennehy.

And just like the homes offered at Washington Farms, the pizzas will be customized for attendees – with everything from white clams to veggies to dessert pizza with Nutella.
