When employer's word isn't reliable

DEAR JOYCE: I enjoyed your column about boomerang employees. But let me share my situation of the moment. I am employed but was planning to become a boomerang employee of a company I worked for and liked a lot several years go. Despite prior salary discussions in which I was told to expect an increase of 10-15 percent of my current salary, yesterday the final offer came in at my same salary.

DEAR JOYCE: I was one of two finalists for a great job and was so perfect for it that I thought I'd surely get it. The other finalist, a man, was selected. When my employer relocated to another state six months ago, I chose to call it quits.
