Everything is going great, except one little thing. You're not sure your new boyfriend is totally over his ex. Sure, it's a nice sign that he can maintain a great relationship with his ex, but how can you know it's not something more?
Here are a few signs, culled from Glamour.com. (And yes, the same principles apply if you're worried about a girlfriend.)
He's still dog-sitting: If they were together for a long time or they got the dog together, he might just miss the dog. But if they've been broken up for months and the dog wasn't his in the first place, it may be his way of maintaining a connection.
They text constantly: If they're always exchanging texts, ask him to show you one. If he wants to keep them private, maybe there is something he needs to hide.
They're going to a wedding together: You get I — the wedding is for mutual friends, or maybe they planned on going before they broke up. It wouldn't hurt to calmly tell him your concerns, emphasizing that you trust him but would feel better if he checked in every once in a while.
He trashes his ex: Any guy who constantly trashes his ex is probably not over the relationship. The opposite of love is indifference.
He's her handyman: Does he rush over every time she calls about a clogged sink? Ask to come along, and his response should give you all the evidence you need.
He still has photos: No one wants to see a picture of a new love with a former flame. On the other hand, you surely keep pictures of your exes. You should only be concerned if he displays them prominently or if he is always looking at them.
You feel like you're competing with his ex: We've all felt like we're competing with an ex. But is it your hang-up or is it because you're made to feel like you don't compare?
