No, you don’t need to go to Target tomorrow.

I promise: Everything will be just fine if you stop shopping now and just relax. Yes, I understand that you think you need to get just one or two more little things. But really? You don’t. It’s not worth it.

I try not to offer “parenting advice” since I’m a writer and not a Professional Parent. But this I know: Don’t do it.

Know what you can do instead? Go to a yoga class. Go for a walk. Bake some cookies. Read a book. Paint your toenails. Seriously: Step away from the strip mall and just relax. You’re fine.

Nothing good will come from spending more money and trying to get out of the Wal Mart parking lot without someone flipping you the bird. Wrap up a box of fruit snacks and call it a day.

Which do you think your kids will appreciate more: Some last-minute junk or a peaceful parent?
