Threats and Oreos

They did it!

They did it! (June 25, 2014)

Three adults and six teenagers of varying athletic abilities successfully hiked to the summit of Mount Washington yesterday. While this may not be a first-time thing, the trip happened with a total lack of whining. Crazy, I know!

We’re attributing our success to a combination of rewards and threats. The kids were told that if they whined they would have to sit on a rock and wait until we came back down a few hours later. And those who did make it to the top were promised as many Oreos as they could eat.

There’s no freaking way I could have done that hike as a teenager, so I’m just as proud of them as they are. We’re pretty sure the fact that they completed this challenging hike was more of a reward than anything, but the stack of Oreos certainly didn’t hurt.
