Oh, the emails I get on the days my column appears in print. Click right here to read it. This email is one of my favorites from today:
GOOD MORNING TERESA
I WAS A CUB SCOUT AND A BOY SCOUT. GREAT TIMES, GOOD FRIENDS. I AM
MY EIGHTIES AND STILL THINK THE SCOUTS ARE GREAT. HOWEVER, I DO NOT
WANT TO FIND MY GRANDSON ON AN OVERNIGHT CAMPING TRIP AND WALKING INTO
THE SCOUT LEADERS TENT AND SEEING HIM HAVING SEX WITH ANOTHER GAY
SCOUT LEADER. TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE. THINGS ARE FINE JUST THE WAY
THEY ARE.
First of all, STOP SHOUTING, SIR.
Thank you.
Now, I guess things are "fine just the way they are" for his grandson, assuming he's heterosexual. My guess is he'd feel differently if his grandson was the kid going for his Eagle Scout award and was denied because of his sexual orientation.
And really? Scout leaders having sex in the scout leaders' tent? Really? Camping may be fun, but not that kind of fun.
I'm reluctant to reply directly to this reader, since a) His subscription pays my salary and b) He's all shouty with the all caps. If he calms down enough to use upper and lowercase letters, I'm ready to talk.
