My smart, committed teacher friend brought this story to my attention. As she notes, the Common Core Standards represent a “dumbing down of the curriculum” in many districts that are doing well without them.
So this dude -- the Education Commissioner in New York -- had planned to discuss the new program at several community meetings. But he’s now cancelling all of his appearances because he says "special interests” are mucking with the process. By “special interests,” we assume he means parents who are actively involved in their children’s education.
Ooh, they're the worst kind. You never want to engage in dialogue with those types of people. Smart move, Commish.
