It's turning out that women are playing a large role in this presidential election...so, the speeches of Ann Romney and Michelle Obama are proving to be very important to their husbands. In an attempt to woo female voters, both women really spoke to us moms and attempted to be extremely relatable.
Last night, the First Lady spoke in a very open, honest tone at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, NC. According to this article from the Tribune Washington Bureau, this time, her speech was on her own terms.
First, she was introduced by a patriotic mom, Elaine Brye, who has four children in different branches of the military.
Then, Obama comfortably took the stage and spoke about her role as a mom, a professional and First Lady. She talked about her husband, Barack, as the President...and a devoted dad.
“Our life before moving to Washington was filled with simple joys. Saturdays at soccer games, Sundays at grandma’s house and a date night for Barack and me was either dinner or a movie, because as an exhausted."
“He’s the same man who, when our girls were first born, would anxiously check their cribs every few minutes to ensure they were still breathing, proudly showing them off to everyone we knew. You see, that’s the man who sits down with me and our girls for dinner nearly every night, patiently answering questions about issues in the news, strategizing about middle school friendships.”
Not surprisingly, some people loved Ann Romney's speech while others hated it. But, truthfully, I'm finding zero criticism of Michelle Obama's words on the internet. Seems, whether or not voters are in step with her husband's politics, this elegant, well-educated woman is a popular American figure.
I asked the same question after Romney's speech.
What did you think? Did her words resonate with you as a mom?
