In addition to snow days, homework-free evenings, Sour Patch Kids, maple syrup and bacon, my little dude loves Christmas. I know, loving Christmas is not unique for a kid. But he takes the holiday to a different level, having consistently written his wish list before December every year that he’s known how to form letters with a crayon.

He’s the one in our family who starts talking about decorating for Christmas long before the Halloween pumpkins have thoroughly rotted.

For the past six or so years, putting up the Christmas stuff has been a bit of a challenge. I’ve struggled with balancing my desire to make things look pretty and his desire to display every last snowman figurine we own.

Today, as I prepared for the annual decorating tug-of-war, it occurred to me to give the little dude his own area to make festive, rather than argue about it and then remove half of the stuff he put out after he goes to bed.

Every few years I accidentally come up with a good idea. The jury is still out as to whose decorations look better, but I think most of the votes are leaning towards the one who knows how to make paper snowflakes.
