Of all the issues we can face with our kids, I haven't had to deal with a whole lot of lying. Telling fibs just wouldn't occur to my eldest son...and when my little guy occasionally tells a tall tale, he gets such a ridiculous expression on his face that I can tell right away.
But, suddenly, I've witnessed some of their peers tell some whoppers. "I have a brand new, super cool video game for my DS!" says one boy. Guess what? His parents don't allow video games and there are none in the house. "I threw up last night and slept on the floor!" Nope. Mom says it was a normal slumber and everyone is A-OK.
Why do kids lie? To impress their friends? Out of boredom? Could be. But, whatever the reason, it is pretty common...and it's best if we parents don't freak out.
