New London Ledge Lighthouse: A few summers ago, we were taking the ferry from New London to Long Island and we cruised past the New London Ledge Lighthouse, the red structure in the middle of the Thames River that looks just like a colonial home. I thought to myself: "Wouldn't it be amazing to take viewers inside?!" I went home, did some research, and wouldn't you know it, a great group called Project Oceanology offers tours during the summer months. This excursion, which I recommend for parents with older children, is so unique. It's completely wild to walk through this large house, rumored to be haunted, and see water, everywhere you look. The boat ride is a big bonus.
