Enjoying the Ride

Today we watched Spring appear.

Our packed red Suburban carried us 937 miles from north to south over the past two days, and we saw actual green grass, then buds, then leaves appear. Click right here to read why on earth we’re doing this.

Did you know that Spring moves north around 16 miles each day? Neither did I. The thing about traveling with others with a sense of adventure is that you learn new things all the time.

My boys and I are used to getting to the destination as quickly as possible. But our traveling companions have mastered the art of enjoying the journey just as much as the goal. So instead of suffering through 14 hours of straight driving, we rented a cool little house in Virginia for two nights, where we could fish in a stream in the front yard and checked out a college town with good restaurants and interesting people. We explored the birthplace of Country Music.

Tomorrow might bring gem panning or cavern exploring. We haven’t quite decided. In any case, we’ll learn something along the way.
