A recent study seems to confirm what doctors and the CDC have been saying for years: pregnant women shouldn't drink at all....not even one occasional glass of wine.  Pediatric researchers at the University of California, San Diego studied 1000 expectant mothers and deduced that abstaining from alcohol during pregnancy is the only way to completely prevent fetal alcohol syndrome.

"It goes along with what we've always told patients," says Dr. Jack Greene, the Associate Director of Women's Health at Hartford Hospital, explaining that there is no known threshold associated to pregnant women and alcohol.  "We don't know any safe amount."  This current research contradicts other studies from the past which suggest a weekly glass of wine could actually be beneficial for an expectant mom and her unborn baby.  But, Greene says, why not be cautious?  Keep perspective and focus on what is really important.  A healthy child.  "The safest thing is to have no alcohol while you're pregnant," he reiterates.
