I am impatiently waiting for the nice UPS guy to bring me my latest Amazon.com purchase: A cookbook. What’s that? You’ve heard that I don’t like making dinner?
The reasons I dislike cooking are:
1) A fifth grader who lives in this house and shall remain nameless is the world’s pickiest eater. He doesn’t eat cheese. Or soup. Or spaghetti sauce. Or any sauce.
2) More often than not, The Husband arrives home from work seven minutes before he needs to leave for a meeting. Or bingo. Or whatever he does at night.
3) I really just want to eat sushi every night, and I don’t want to take responsibility for purchasing fish fresh enough to be consumed raw.
But I heard about “Time for Dinner” (Chronicle Books, 2010) on the Faith Middleton Show (on WNPR) and I was sold. Written by three foodies from Cookie magazine, the book promises to get weary cooks at least part of the way through the week by making One Big Thing on Sunday, and adding ingredients to it throughout the week to make several meals. Starting from square one every night is a waste of time, they say.
I’ll take a stab at a few of the recipes, and will share my experiences. Warning: Some recipes may contain cheese.
