Big Dudes Need Not Apply

This week, thousands of Boy Scouts -- and for the first time ever, girls, too -- are in West Virginia for the quadrennial Jamboree. Three scouts from my kids’ troop are attending.

Not everyone was welcome this year, however. Organizers limited the high-adventure week to kids with Body Mass Indexes no higher than 40.

But do the math. (No, really. Click right here to figure out yours.) They’re not being too strict, really. A kid who is 5’10’’ and weighs 275 pounds would be allowed, although he would have to provide additional medical approval.

I think it was a good move. Scouts knew years ago that the new rule would be in effect, which may have convinced some to lay off the doughnuts in order to participate.
