I don't watch Jeopardy! often enough to know if people get away with spelling things wrong during the written Final Jeopardy round.
The story about a smart little kid from Connecticut losing because of an extra P in Emancipation totally stinks.
Even with my limited knowledge of the show I've witnessed Alex Trebek coming across as a smartypants know-it-all (resisting the temptation to label him a smart Aleck.) "Because you misspelled it badly ...?" You should see how my 12-year-old spells. (I kid. I don't have a 12-year-old. But if I did, he might not be the best speller.)
Not nice, wise guy.
