Activities For Families With Cancelled Halloween

Well, we still have no power...and we found out last night that our Halloween parades - at school and in town - are cancelled because of the downed trees and power lines in our area....a result of Hurricane Sandy.  Town officials are trying to keep the kids' spirits high by organizing an afternoon event at our middle school instead.  So, Halloween will be different...but, we'll try to make the most of it.

Local attractions are also coming on board...offering special activities for families like us.

The Connecticut Science Center sent me this press release:

Hartford, CT – The Connecticut Science Center will extend operating hours on Wednesday October 31 and will be open from 10AM - 6PM to accommodate the many families affected by school cancellations as a result of Hurricane Sandy. Kids who come in costume will receive $5 off General Admission on Halloween.

In addition, there will be special Spooktacular Halloween activities from 2PM – 6PM. The activities will include trick or treating, arts & crafts, and pumpkin decorating. Spooktacular Halloween activities are sponsored by Big Y World Class Markets and included FREE with the purchase of General Admission or Membership. Masks for adults are not permitted.

The Connecticut Science Center and UTC Power are offering a complimentary cell phone charging station to Science Center customers on a first come basis. The atrium/lobby level “Science Alley” also has free WIFI available.

Also, Mystic Aquarium is hosting a free trick-or-treating event, too:

MYSTIC, Conn. (October 30, 2012) – As trick-or-treating is being canceled around the region in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, Sea Research Foundation’s Mystic Aquarium is opening its doors on Wednesday, Oct. 31 from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. for a free, safe, family-friendly trick-or-treating event among the aquarium’s exhibits.
All are welcome to attend and Mystic Aquarium will accommodate as many families as possible during that time. Last admission is at 7:30 p.m. and, once inside, guests may stay until 8 p.m.
Do you know of any other area events for folks affected by Halloween cancellations?
Please share...and, whatever you do, have fun tonight!
