Best Travel Apps: Don't Leave Home Without Them

By KORKY VANN |

Want to have a fun, hassle-free, deal of a summer vacation?

There's an app for that. (Actually, there are a number of apps for that.)

Apps to help you map your route, track your flight, find the cheapest gas and hotel rooms. Apps to organize your travel details, pack your suitcase and translate words and phrases when you don't speak the language.
Looking for bargain-priced tickets for Broadway shows, local diners, drive-ins and dives, the best outlet shopping in Maine or the closest public bathroom? Apps for those, too.
"With the right websites and apps, this summer¿s vacation planning can be a cinch," says Lisa Lee Freeman, editor-in-chief of ShopSmart magazine, a Consumer Reports publication. "These tools can help you do everything from plan the perfect road-trip filled with attractions to nab a deal on a hotel room at the last minute."
ShopSmart's June issue recommends several apps to download before you hit the road -- including AAA's free TripTik Mobile (you don't have to be a member of the travel club to use it), which provides latest gas prices, maps, directions and information on local hotel, restaurants and attractions.
We've got some other favorites. (Most are available for Android and IOS. Check the iTunes app store and Google Play.)
