Now that daylight saving time is here (finally!), we know we're swinging into spring. To mark this change of season, I hit the streets to ask shoppers what they'd like to buy for spring.
Candice Roethlinger 32, youth minister
What's on your wish list for spring? "I need some new espadrilles. Probably a really pretty, flow-y scarf, not too heavy. Definitely I like floral. Purple. Nothing too pastel. I'm not a pastel girl."
Anything else? "Basic T-shirts. Basic white. Basic black. They go with anything. For those, I'm a Target shopper. And some really bright, cute earrings. Forever 21 is really good for cute trendy things."
Larry Williams 26, financial portfolio manager
What will you shop for this spring? "I hate to shop."
But is there stuff you need? "New sandals — flip flops. Khaki shorts. Hats. I love hats. A ball cap — Tampa Bay Rays. I don't go shopping very often."
Sounds like you're just pretty much replacing old things with the identical new things? "I wear the same thing every summer and spring."
Andrey Sverzhanovskiy, 28, school van driver
Are you a good shopper? "I like to shop."
What's on your list for spring? "A change of style. I still have this teenage style. I'm look for something more mature, more fitted."
Like what? "Cardigans, V-neck sweaters and T-shirts. Maybe some dress shirts. I like unusual colors. ... I have a fuchsia shirt. Slim-fit pants, jeans."
Any special brands? "I don't really care about name brands."
Diane Castillo 61, retired, with Hercules, 8eight months
Will you be buying anything new for spring? "My husband and I aren't collecting things anymore. I'm starting to give things away."
So you won't be buying anything new? "I need new dining room chairs because of him (gesturing toward Hercules) but they're going to have to wait until he's finished with his chewing. He's annihilated them."
C. P. Ward, 64, fitness instructor and hair stylist
Your spring shopping wish list? "Something from Crate & Barrel, for the home. Beautiful bed covers, lamps, table runners. Something to spruce up the house rather than for myself."
Do you have any colors in mind? "Something cheerful and colorful. Oranges and reds and yellows but in cool shades."
Stan Ward, 70, public school administrator
Will you do any shopping this spring? "We'll probably buy a truckload of flowers. I like red and blue flowers."
For the garden? "Yes. I admire them, and she plants them (nodding toward his wife)."
Pat Toy, 51, receptionist
What's on your spring wish list? "A new leather jacket. A brown one. I don't want to pay too much. Under $150. I'm a bargain hunter, and I have patience. I definitely get that bargain."
That's all? "I want to wear more dresses. For color, I want to go slightly wild but in my age group. More prints."
