A plumber will charge $216 to remove an old tub, replace it with a new plastic unit and reinstall the faucet. If you're handy and have basic plumbing tools and talent, you can buy a wash sink for $75, make the swap and pocket a nice 65 percent saving. If the old faucet needs to be replaced, budget more and install it in the tub before setting the new unit in place.
Position the new tub so it's near the washing machine, allowing space for the discharge hose behind the machine. Some tub units stand freely, while others have holes in the bottom of the legs that should be anchored to the floor.
