Keys to great pool design
•Frolicking. For splashing and playing in the water, a minimum of 3 feet deep is required, with an average depth running between a uniform 4 and 5 feet.
•Diving. If you plan on diving, your pool must have a deep end. The Association of Pool and Spa Professionals has developed minimum standards for pool depth, width and length for diving. Consult a pool professional for dimensions suited to your needs.
•Exercising. Another way to exercise in a limited area is offered by 8- to 12-foot-long jetted pools. By swimming against currents made by two or more jets, you can get a workout while staying in the same place. A calisthenics or exercise program in your pool requires water 3 to 5 feet deep.
