Donald E. Emerick, 94, of Central City (Reels Corner,) died Feb. 22, 2011, at Country Manor Personal Care Home, Jerome. Born Nov. 7, 1916, in Schellsburg, son of Homer and Emma (Diehl) Emerick. Preceded in death by parents, wife the former Margaret Snyder, daughter Nancy C. Chapwick, sisters: Betty Ickes, Alice Miller, Doris Suder, and Grace Miller, and brothers: Harry and Leroy Emerick. Survived by children: Janie married to Charles Dull, Mechanicsburg, and Harry married to the former Petra Osarczuk, Pittsburgh; grandchildren: Stacey, Kimberly, Cheryl, Jennifer, Gregory, Michelle, Dan, and Keith; and 14 great-grandchildren. Brother of Ruth Miller, Janet Coughenour, and Homer Emrick Jr. He worked with the Civilian Conservation Corps as a young man. Former employee of Poorbaugh and Cassler Lumber Companies. Member of Shade-Creek Ridge Church of the Brethren. Don built his house from scratch by reading a book, and was an avid gardener. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Deaner Funeral Home, Stoystown, where service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday. Rev. Chuck Statler officiating.
