In celebration of March being Music in Our Schools month, Roncalli Junior and Senior High band and choir students will present a soup and sandwich supper and concert Monday (March 25) at the Roncalli High School Gym.
The serving of homemade chili and chicken noodle soup, sandwiches and ice cream will begin at 5 p.m. and will continue until the food is gone. Donations will be accepted to raise money for a set of chimes and a Smart Board.
The concert will begin at 5:30 p.m. Featured in the concert will be the junior high choir, junior high band, high school choir and high school band.
The junior high choir will sing two selections, the first of which is a three-part mixed piece called “Didn’t My Lord Deliver Daniel,” arranged by Roger Emerson. It will be followed by the Jerry Estes’ selection “This Is a Celebration.”
The high school choir is also singing two songs, beginning with an a cappella piece titled "Non Nobis, Domine," by William Byrd. The second will be "Hosanna: Three Latin Settings" by Estes. Camille Fischer directs both of the choirs.
Both the junior and high school bands will debut their concert literature. The junior high band selections include “Triumphant Fanfare,” “Whispers of the Wind” and “Russian Sailor’s Dance.” In addition to this performance, the junior high band will also perform these selections at the Instrumental Music Contest April 13 in Redfield.
The high school band will conclude the concert by performing their contest selections “Be Thou My Vision” featuring piccolo soloist Shelby Bauer, and “Amparito Roca,” a Spanish march.
The junior high and high school instrumental groups are directed by Kimberly Carda.
The high school band will perform at the Region IV Music Contest at 2:20 p.m. Wednesday (March 27) at the Johnson Fine Arts Center. The public is invited to attend not only the concert on Monday evening, but also the performance at NSU.
