Sister Deb Nelson
Sister Deb Nelson is celebrating her 25th anniversary today.
She graduated from Mobridge High School in 1984; earned an associate’s degree in early childhood development from Presentation College; a bachelor’s degree in theology from Creighton University in Omaha, Neb., and a master’s degree in religious education from loyola University, Chicago. She was director of religious education and youth ministry for the Holy Spirit Parish in Sioux Falls and director of youth ministry for St. Mary and Sacred Heart parishes in Aberdeen. She was a parish minister at St. Ann Parish, Miller, and St. Joseph Parish, Wessington; director of youth formation for St. Thomas More, Brookings. She is now a missionary in Kalomo, Zambia, Central Africa.
Sister Loraine Brown
Sister Loraine Brown from Sioux Falls will celebrate her 60th anniversary as a Presentation Sister July 21. She graduated from Notre Dame Academy, Mitchell. She earned a teaching certificate from Presentation College and bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Northern State University. She taught at Woonsocket, Jefferson, Bridgewater, Mitchell and Huron, as well as Willmar, Anoka, and Mound, Minn. In Forest Lake, Minn., she worked in parish ministry at St. Peter Parish and as administrative coordinator for the Senior Community Center. She graduated from the Sister Rosalind’s School of Profession Massage, St. Paul, Minn., and was a massage therapist in Lindstrom, Minn. She has been a massage therapist at Avera Queen of Peace Wellness Center, Mitchell, since 1996.
Sister Mary Denis Collins
Sister Mary Denis Collins from Wibaux, Mont., will celebrate her 60th anniversary as an Aberdeen Presentation Sister July 21. She graduated from Sacred Heart High School, Miles City, Mont.; earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Colorado State University in Fort Collins. She served at Avera McKennan Hospital, Sioux Falls; Avera St. Luke’s, Aberdeen; and Holy Rosary Hospital, Miles City, Mont. She was elected to the Presentation Sisters Leadership Council, worked at Barrett House, Albuquerque, N.M., and was vice president of the system services of the Presentation Health System. She now visits and prays with the sisters and residents at Mother Joseph Manor, Aberdeen.
Sister Gabriella Crowley
Sister Gabriella Crowley from Henry will celebrate her 60th anniversary July 21. She graduated from Henry High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in foods and nutrition from St. Catherine College, St. Paul, Minn. She was a dietitian at Holy Rosary Hospital, Miles City, Mont., and Avera McKennan Hospital, Sioux Falls. She worked with American Indian parishioners at St. Joseph Parish, Mobridge, and was a missionary in Guerrero, Mexico. She was the assistant director of the Good Shepherd Center, Sioux Falls. She is now the receptionist at Caminando Juntos Hispanic Ministry, Sioux Falls, and is involved in promoting social justice issues, abolishing the death penalty and ministering at the state penitentiary.
Sister Antonia Dunn
Sister Antonia Dunn from Farmer will celebrate her 60th anniversary July 21. She graduated from Alexandria High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in foods and nutrition from St. Catherine College, St. Paul, Minn. She was a dietician at St. Joseph Hospital, Mitchell; Holy Rosary Hospital, Miles City, Mont.; and Avera St. Luke’s Hospital, Aberdeen. She was a retirement counselor, convent administrator and administrative assistant at Presentation Heights, and was a home care and hospice aide for Sisters Care, St. Paul, Minn. She volunteered with the St. Lawrence Parish, Milbank; the Foster Grandparent Program and the Meals on Wheels Program, Aberdeen. She is now in full-time prayer ministry at Mother Joseph Manor, Aberdeen.
Sister Paulette Garry
Sister Paulette Garry from Huron will celebrate her 60th anniversary July 21. She graduated from Huron High School; earned a teaching certificate from Presentation College, a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a master’s degree in education from Northern State University. She taught in Mound and Willmar, Minn.; Madison, Woonsocket, Sioux Falls, Aberdeen and Dell Rapids, and was principal of Sacred Heart, Aberdeen. She is now the community life and hospitality director, as well as sacristan and member of the Sisters’ Care Team at Presentation Heights.
Sister Olive Ewalt
Sister Olive Ewalt from Webster will celebrate her 75th anniversary Aug. 11. She graduated from St. Joseph School, Grenville, and from (Avera) St. Luke’s School of Nursing, Aberdeen, as a registered nurse and completed pediatric and obstetric surgical training at St. Joseph Hospital, Springfield, Ill. She was a floor nurse at Presentation Hospitals and nursing homes in Aberdeen and Mitchell, as well as in Miles City, Mont. She also worked at the Presentation Children’s Home, Sioux Falls, and as a convent nurse in Aberdeen. She acted as Eucharistic minister at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital, several nursing homes, Presentation Heights and many of the home bound in Aberdeen. She volunteered with Meals on Wheels and as organist at area nursing homes. She is now in full-time prayer ministry at Presentation Heights, Aberdeen.
Sister Eleanor Joyce
Sister Eleanor Joyce from Redfield will celebrate her 75th anniversary Aug. 11. She graduated from Notre Dame Academy, Mitchell. She earned a teaching certificate from Notre Dame Junior College, Mitchell; a bachelor’s degree in music from Cardinal Stritch College, Milwaukee; and a master’s degree from Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C. She taught in Milbank, Dell Rapids, Mitchell, Bridgewater, Aberdeen, Sioux Falls, Woonsocket, Gettysburg, Lebanon, Parkston, Ethan and Redfield and Winsted, Minn. She also ministered at Presentation College, Aberdeen, as registrar, librarian and instructor. She is now in full-time prayer ministry at Mother Joseph Manor, Aberdeen.
