Von Sydow portrayed Ingmar Bergman's grandfather in the film "The Best Intentions," which was written by Bergman and chronicled the early days of his parents' relationship, right up until his mother became pregnant with him. The film won the Palme d'Or at the 1992 Cannes Film Festival.
