When you hear Rick Ross, do you think rapper or former L.A. cocaine dealer? The original "Freeway" Rick Ross, a convicted drug trafficker who ran a Los Angeles drug empire in the 1980s, took the rapper to court for appropriating his name and likeness in creating a hip-hop persona. He sued for $10 million in damages, but a California appeals court ruled that the musician's alias and image are protected under the 1st Amendment.
