The suburbs of Long Island aren't seen in black-and-white very often. Which is exactly why Eric Mendelsohn shot his movie there in that fashion, making the leafy precincts outside New York seem at once more wholesome and more menacing. Also notable: Edie Falco in a very different outerboro turn than the one that made her famous.
